CHANTILLY, VA (April 28, 2019) — Blue Star, a leading managed network security services company, partnered with the cybersecurity clubs at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and University of Maryland, College Park to sponsor capture-the-flag (CTF) competitions for cybersecurity club students. Capture-the-flag is a popular cybersecurity training tool where teams use cybersecurity techniques to identify hidden clues or “flags” to help sharpen their skills.
Led by Blue Star employees Austin Norby and Ken Truex, the team designed the CTF challenges and met with students on campus to lead them through the exercises. The all-day events helped students improve their cyber capabilities in an engaging way, while also giving them the opportunity to talk with Blue Star employees to learn more about careers in cybersecurity.
“Community is a primary part of Blue Star’s mission” said Blue Star President, Dan Sherwell. “We always enjoy meeting with students, answering questions and seeing how passionate they are about cybersecurity.”
Blue Star is constantly looking for opportunities to partner with local universities and community organizations to provide cybersecurity education and training.
