Blue Star’s Cyber Security 14-person 5K team participated in the 11th annual AFCEA Central Maryland 5K and Fun Run that took place earlier today in Columbia, MD. Proceeds from the race support merit-based STEM scholarships for graduating high school seniors living in Baltimore City and Central Maryland counties. The annual AFCEA event includes a 5K, a family-oriented 1 Mile Fun Run, and an after party hosted by Nottingham’s, a beloved local eatery.
This is the 2nd year that Blue Star has participated in the race according to Alexa Watson, Director of Employee Engagement. “We’re a proud supporter of AFCEA’s scholarship fund and love to use this opportunity to have some fun with colleagues and show off our company pride,” she continued. “I foresee us supporting this race for many years to come.”
“The event is so much fun and it supports a good cause. I really enjoy hanging out with our team and their families and friends. We are already looking forward to next year’s race,” said Dan Sherwell, president of Blue Star.
This year’s AFCEA CMD 5K and Fun Run drew a crowd of 753 runners, nearly 200 more than last year. Photos from the event can be found on a Google Photos page dedicated to the race.
